What’s your holiday motto? In recent years there has been a big trend to pick a “word of the year” to inspire and motivate you. On Happier with Gretchen Rubin (my favorite podcast!), they discussed creating a “holiday motto”
Borrowing from holiday hymns, songs and themes, she and her sister/cohost Elizabeth suggested ideas like:
• Comfort and Joy
• All is Calm, All is Bright
• Tis the Season to be Jolly
The idea is to use this motto as an inspiration throughout the season to help motivate and even help make decisions if you feel overwhelmed. For example, a “comfort and joy” theme could help you as a gift-giving theme or “to be Jolly” could help you remember this is supposed to be fun!
I totally love this idea and have brainstormed a bunch of options. What will you pick as your holiday motto?
• Joy to the World
• Have a Holly Jolly Christmas
• I’ll Be Home for Christmas
• Winter Wonderland
• Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men
• Deck the Halls
• O Holy Night
• Heavenly Peace
• Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room
• Wise Men Still Seek Him
• God and Sinners Reconcile
• Visions of Sugarplums
• Repeat the Sounding Joy
• Heaven and Nature Sing
• Silent Night, Holy Night
• Go Tell it on the Mountain
• Bearing Gifts We Traverse Afar
• Star of Wonder
• Making Spirits Bright
For me, I think I’m picking this last one “Making Spirits Bright.” I want to focus on the joy and happiness of the season. I want to find delight for myself and others.
