Live! The Christmas Story in Art with the National Gallery

Tune in on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. (EST) to take a tour of the National Gallery of Art’s Christmas related art.

The tour is offered multiple times in the holiday season but will be livestreamed on Dec. 13. You can also look at a slideshow of the included works if you prefer.

The tour explores the episodes surrounding the birth of Christ as depicted through masterworks from the National Gallery’s permanent collection, including paintings by Duccio, Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Giorgione, and Gerard David. Related excerpts from the King James Version of the Bible as well as discussions of iconography, technique, and historical context enrich this holiday event.

We are traveling to Washington soon so I look forward to hearing about some of the images we will see.
