A few weeks ago I gave you 8 ways to read free books online. Well, guess what? There are even more!
Here are five more “new-to-me” ways to get free books online including audio books. Do you know more ways to get free books online? If so, leave me a comment.
Find Free Books Online
Lit2Go
Lit2Go is a free online collection of stories and poems in Mp3 (audiobook) format created by the University of South Florida. An abstract, citation, playing time, and word count are given for each of the passages.
Many of the passages also have a related reading strategy identified. Each reading passage can also be downloaded as a PDF and printed for use as a read-along or as supplemental reading material for your classroom.
Lit2Go has many classic books as well as poetry, speeches, and plays. Writings are divided by genre, author or reading level.
Loyal Books
Formerly “Books Should Be Free” Loyal Books is another source of public domain books and audiobooks free for everyone. Offering more than 7000 titles, this site will keep you busy for a while.
They also offer paid audiobooks through Audible.
Open Library
A feature of the Internet Archive, Open Library’s goal is “to make all the published works of humankind available to everyone in the world.”
Open Library has public domain as well as university holdings. In addition, some modern books, including textbooks, can be “borrowed.” like a traditional library or you can be connected to a local library where you can get the book in hand. Sign up for your free Open Library account here.
Many Books
Featuring more than 50,000 classic and contemporary books, Many Books is another option for finding free books online. I like the design of this site including “editor’s picks” and divisions by genre with lovely cover images.
Many Books also accepts self-published authors under certain conditions so you might find a hidden treasure as well.
Riveted by SimonTeen
Riveted by Simon Teen is an online community for anyone that loves young adult fiction where you can read full YA books or extended excerpts for FREE, discover your new favorite books and authors, enter for the chance to win new and upcoming releases, and more. It is free but you do have to register.
If YA is your thing, then don’t miss this site.
These 5 plus the other 8 ways to read free books online gives you access to thousands of book titles for absolutely no money! Life is good!
